Cosmetic Surgery Process
You've decided to have cosmetic surgery – now what?
- The first step is calling to schedule a cosmetic surgery consultation: At your consultation you will meet with one of our San Diego doctors who will discuss your chosen cosmetic surgery treatment and answer any questions that you may have, he will then do an exam and discuss surgery options with you. Lastly, one of our cosmetic surgery patient coordinators will meet with you to go over pricing and scheduling. The coordinators, Lydia and Jessica, are here for you throughout your cosmetic surgery experience with us should you have any questions along the way.
- Scheduling Cosmetic Surgery: Some patients schedule surgery following their consultation, others may call within a few days to schedule. When you are ready, you will put down a $250 non-refundable deposit to hold your date at our La Jolla Cosmetic Surgery Facility. This amount will be applied to your cosmetic surgery fee.
- Cosmetic Surgery Pre-operative Visit: This appointment is usually scheduled two weeks before your surgery. The purpose of this visit is mainly to meet with one of our nurses to sign your surgical consents, get instructions and any necessary lab work, and pay for your surgery. The doctor usually comes in for a brief time, as the main purpose of this visit is to prepare for your surgery. If you would like more time with the doctor, we welcome you to schedule a second pre-operative consultation.
- Your Cosmetic Surgery: Our fully-accredited suite of operating rooms is conveniently located in La Jolla, San Diego. This is where your cosmetic surgery treatment will take place. You will arrive about an hour before surgery actually starts, and will be in recovery for about an hour after surgery. You will need a ride home and someone to stay with you the first 24 hours. We will see you back the next day or two after surgery.
- After Cosmetic Surgery: Depending on what cosmetic surgery procedure you have had done, we will see you a few times in the weeks following surgery. You can usually drive yourself to your appointments after about one week, again depending on what you have had done.
Concierge Information for Out-of-Town Patients
Dr. Wendell Smoot, Dr. John Smoot, and Dr. Richard Chaffoo have many patients that travel from out of town to have surgery in our fully-accredited surgical suite. We will help provide you with the necessary information to prepare you for surgery and will do everything possible to ensure that this is an easy and relaxing journey for you. Our patient coordinators will discuss the procedures with you and may ask that you email or send photos for the doctors to review before surgery.
In addition to your paperwork and laboratory results, our patient coordinators will assist you with lodging recommendations, private nursing care, or extended-stay facilities in and around La Jolla and San Diego. (The length of stay will depend on which cosmetic surgery treatment you are having done.)
