Breast Lift
The main concerns our La Jolla-area patients usually have during their breast lift surgery consult are how the scars will look after surgery and how more upper-breast volume can be achieved without breast implants. Certain patients have enough fullness to their breasts that some of their own tissue can be used to obtain fullness on the upper portion of the breasts without the use of implants. By moving some of the patient's own breast tissue, our breast lifts are done in such a way that patients are able to achieve more fullness on the top portion of the breast without implants.
Breast Lift Patient Assessment
The best candidates for breast lift surgery are those who have lost breast volume as a result of weight loss, aging, and childbirth. Women seeking this type of breast surgery should be aware that breast lift can only reduce sagging. If additional volume is desired, our San Diego surgeons can combine breast lift with breast implants for full, natural-looking results.
Breast Lift Procedure
In most cases, we are able to eliminate the horizontal incision of the traditional "anchor" scar, leaving just an incision around the areola with a vertical incision down to the crease of the breast (sometimes called a “lollipop” scar due to the shape). Using this specialized technique, our San Diego Breast Surgeons are able to give patients a rounder, shapelier breast with minimal incisions.
Women with moderate to severe sagging may need to undergo traditional breast lift. During your breast lift consultation, you and the breast surgeon will determine the optimal breast surgery technique for you.
After the incisions are made, the surgeon will remove any excess skin and lift the breast tissue to a more youthful position, repositioning the nipple to its new location.
Breast Lift Recovery
After they are bandaged and given a special support bra, San Diego patients are given similar recovery instructions as for breast augmentation. They are usually able to return to work after about a week, and other activities may be resumed in two to three weeks.
