John D. Smoot, M.D., F.A.C.S.
Dr. John D. Smoot graduated from the University of Utah, School of Medicine and has 24 years of surgical experience. He has been practicing plastic surgery for 20 of those years. As a Diplomat of the American Board of Plastic Surgery, Dr. John Smoot is board certified in plastic surgery. In addition, Dr. Smoot is affiliated with the following professional associations:

Wendell D. Smoot III, M.D., F.A.C.S.
Dr. Wendell D. Smoot III has practiced plastic surgery for 30 years since his graduation from the University of Utah School of Medicine. As with the other plastic surgeons at our La Jolla, San Diego practice, Dr. Wendell Smoot is a board certified Diplomat of the American Board of Plastic Surgery. He is also associated with these professional groups:

Since beginning to practice plastic surgery in San Diego in 1979, Dr. Wendell Smoot has had an opportunity to hone his fine surgical skills. As a result of this, he offers the short scar facelift technique to qualifying patients, meaning that they can enjoy facial rejuvenation with minimal scarring and down time.
Dr. Wendell Smoot has been voted "Top Doctor" for five years now (2004-2008).
Richard A.K. Chaffoo, M.D., F.A.C.S.
After graduating from the Wake Forest University School of Medicine, Dr. Richard Chaffoo completed a facial aesthetic surgery fellowship at Stanford University and a burn surgery fellowship at UCSD Medical Center. He then brought his plastic surgery skills to the general public and has had 21 years of experience since then.
Dr. Richard Chaffoo is not only a certified Diplomat of the American Board of Plastic Surgery and the American Board of Otolaryngology, he is also affiliated with the following professional organizations:

Charitable Work
Beyond practicing plastic surgery in San Diego, the doctors are actively involved with UCSD International and Interface – two organizations that provide quality reconstructive surgical care to children with genetic deformities in Mexico. Our San Diego Plastic Surgeons are conveniently close to the international border and as such, they can regularly visit Mexico to provide much-needed care to these children.

Cosmetic Surgery Staff Members
There are fifteen members on staff with Dr. Wendell Smoot, Dr. John Smoot, and Dr. Richard Chaffoo. Because of the caring doctors and the pleasant atmosphere at our center, we have many long term staff members, including some that are bilingual and speak Spanish. Some have been with our La Jolla Cosmetic Surgery Office for more than twenty years. That pleasant and caring feeling is passed on to long term patients that continue to return to our practice when they are ready for their next cosmetic surgery procedure.

Patient Coordinators
Our patient coordinators, Jessica (on left) and Lydia (on right), guide patients through each step of the cosmetic surgery process. They help patients to visualize the potential results of their surgery by using before and after photos. During each office visit, every concern and decision is discussed, including a variety of cosmetic surgery financing options.
Fully Accredited Surgery Center Facilities
Our staff members and plastic surgeons aren’t the only reasons to choose our La Jolla office. The 5,000 square foot surgical facility and adjacent offices are fully equipped with two operating rooms and a three-bed recovery unit. We are equipped and accredited for all types of local and general anesthesia. Our surgical accreditation comes from the nationally recognized American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgical Facilities, Inc.
